Our five top films starring dogs

Film’s best friend

Following the recent buzz of the Baftas and Oscars, we couldn’t help but reminisce about our favourite films starring dogs. Have a look at our top five and see whether you agree…

Our top five must-watch dog movies

An obvious choice, maybe, but a classic nonetheless. The original Lassie was brought to life in Eric Knight’s novel. Numerous films and a TV series followed. Unless you have a heart of stone, you’re bound to love this tale of collie loyalty.

Breeding an endless array of sequels, this classic St. Bernard romp has become a cult favourite. Meet Beethoven, the stray puppy turned destructively humungous pooch preyed on by nasty vet Dean Jones. Behaviour, may we add, that Vets on the Park doesn’t condone.

101 Dalmatians

This Disney classic is a heart-warming tale that follows the lives of Dalmatians Pongo and Perdita and their adorable pups. See how their litter transforms from 15 to 101 – it’s guaranteed to knock your spots off.

Marley & Me

A puppy grows into a loveable, destructive hound… wait, that sounds familiar. Hardly original, but so what? We still lapped up the story of the Grogans and their yellow Labrador, Marley, named after Bob Marley.

A Close Shave

Never seen a herd of sheep standing in formation on a motorbike travelling at high speed? Well, you have now. This is the third film from Oscar-winning Aardman Animations in which Wallace’s loyal dog, Gromit, meets his match in dangerous robot dog, Preston.

Time for a movie night. And don’t forget that whether you have a host of Dalmatians, a loveable Labrador or a characterful Collie, we welcome all dogs here at Vets on the Park, so make sure your pet is registered with us.
